Charlie on the beach at St Bees, Cumbria

Webwatch with Charlie

What has happened to the sunshine. We told mum that if she cut our fluff then the bad weather would return. Well we have been proved right.

Last Saturday mum arranged the clippers and the mat outside and we were subjected to the summer scalping. A number one was in order for me whilst Buster got a number two haircut.

Sure enough, by today dad has had to turn the heating back on in the house and we are constantly on the lookout for warm places to lay down.

Rain and wind have also ruined any chance of going for a nice walk. So we are miserable and as a result we have turned to the web for a bit of light relief and to see what is going on.

Webwatch with Charlie

We have had quite a number of suggestions for sites to be featured in this months ‘Webwatch with Charlie’. Thanks to all of you who have been in touch.

Here are a few of our favourites and few we have found on our searches of the internet.

Peggy’s Blog – Peggy is a Whippet X-Breed and is 11 years old. She lives in Haydock with her mum Gill & dad Michael.  They rescued her from Leigh Animal Sanctuary and when they first brought her home she was skinny. On her blog she says she was always nervous and worried and would shake terribly every time something new happened. However, she is all better now and can sit and stay and doesn’t worry so much when mum & dad go out anymore – although she still really doesn’t like the postman very much.

Dog Daze – Dog Daze! is an assorted collection of out-take photos not used on the main walk pages of StridingEdge.net, but worthy of an airing for their canine fans. Casper and Dougal are Bearded Collies who accompany their owner on many of the walks. They are faithful companions with great character with seemingly boundless energy.

HandicappedPets.com – This company was created in 2001 to support the caretakers of elderly, injured, and handicapped pets. Currently available in the USA this website features some great looking kit ideal to take the strain on your limbs after injury or as you get older.

One of the great ideas is a set of wheels and a harness to support you if your back gets injured or you have a faulty paw.  Other bits of kit available on the site include safety harnesses, leg splints and assorted boots to protect us from sharp objects or the cold.

They even do Paw Pads. These are engineered to provide traction for dogs without impeding our natural movement and are stuck straight onto our paws with medical grade glue.  Ideal for older dogs with hip dysphasia and arthritis, or dogs recuperating from hip or back surgery.

Walkies on Table Mountain – Coco is  a friendly black scottie with an unfriendly wheaten brother ( We think Buster is a wheaten, it must be a genetic thing being grumpy). He describes himself as a ratter turned lap dog.

Based in Cape Town, South Africa Coco regularly explores the local area finding new sniffs, flowers and friends.

Life with Beanie and Biggles AKA Four Legged Pal – Two beagles who enjoy expeditions as much as us it seems from reading their blog.  Based in Scotland this pair of  trouble makers love coming to the Lake District and posing for the camera. At least they seem to stay still long enough to allow their photographs to be taken.

And finally a few laughs thanks to Offthemark.com.  Mark Parisi has been making cartoons available on his website since 1987. Off the mark has twice been nominated for Best Newspaper Comic Panel by The National Cartoonists Society and for Best Humor Book by The Independent Publisher’s Association.

If you have a suggestion for a website to feature then please let me know, via the contact us page,  and I can look at take a look at it for possible inclusion in next months edition.
