Charlie take a moment to rest

Fed up of the rain

We are now officially fed up of the rain.  According to the weather gauge we have had over 55mm of rain this month in this area, and 11mm of that was in the last 24 hours.

Add to the wet weather the cold temperatures, currently only 15 Deg C, and you have two very miserable pups trying to keep warm and dry.

Enough of the moaning and on to our walk this morning which took us to the River Eden at the back of the Willowholme Industrial Estate in Carlisle.

Looking out across the river it is swollen with the recent rain however looks to be staying within the boundary walls.

Cumberland Show

All of a sudden mum put two and two together at this point and realised it was Cumberland Show weekend  and, for the last two years, it has rained.

In 2009 the show was cancelled as river levels in the Eden flooded onto the  showground in Rickerby Park.  This forced the organisers to relocate to Carlisle Racecourse where in 2010 heavy rain made conditions ‘a little muddy’.

With the rain affecting the 2011 Cumberland Show the organisers must be wondering what they have to do to make the event a success and gain back some no doubt lost revenue.

Dodging showers

Our walk today was punctuated by brief huddling under trees to try and keep dry.  These rest stops gave me chance to have some fresh grass and for Charlie to make his tummy dirty.

As we passed by the industrial estate, we notice hundreds of wooden pallets rising into the sky from one of units. What fun we could have if they could be arranged as steps and platforms for us to run up and down.

Our walk also revealed the unusual flower stems of the plant shown in the photograph to the right.

Featuring a small greenish flower the plant almost looked like it could be found in a dinosaur film.  It was most unusual and one for mum to look up when she gets home.

Oh well a quick walk today as the heavens once again open with a deluge of rain.

Until next time

Buster and Charlie
