Carlisle ice rink ready to open

Carlisle ice rink ready to open

See update below  – Opening date has changed since article was published:

The new ice rink in Carlisle now seems complete and the barriers are erected. It should open on the 8th March.

Regular readers will know that I mentioned the new synthetic rink recently and speculated that it could open towards the start of March.

A quick check on the Twitter site set up for the new facility and a posting  confirms the 8 March opening date.

This date is also confirmed on the Carlisle Leisure website .

The plastic rink can be found in Bitts Park next to the castle and behind the tennis air bubble.

Until next time

UPDATE  – Tue 4 March 1600

Just when you get a date in the diary everything changes.  The opening date has been moved forward to Friday 7 March according to the Carlisle City Councils Facebook Page

The ice rink is 28m x 12m and is big enough to accommodate 76 skaters in one go according to the City Council.

One interesting observation is that the rink will not be open all day.

The school term-time opening hours will be:

  • Mondays to Thursdays: 5pm and 6pm
  • Fridays: 5pm, 6pm and 7pm
  • Saturdays and Sundays: 12noon, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm.

Opening hours will be extended during school holidays. Skating sessions start on the hour, with 15 minutes to get skates on, a 30 minute session on the rink followed by 15 minutes to get skates off.
