With the clocks moving back by one hour over the weekend we are now officially on the countdown to Christmas, Bonfire night and lots of dark evenings for walks.
Work has already started to build a big bonfire in Bitts Park, Carlisle, ahead of the free City bonfire event on Saturday 1 November.
Situated behind Carlisle Castle, Bitts Park has also seen some work done to create a new access ramp and some general improvements to the road and parking in the area.
A new road surface now replaces the speed bumps and craters between the castle and the Sheepmount Athletics Stadium.
Parking areas have also been properly designated with the introduction of large wooden posts to clearly define where and where not to park vehicles.
Bonfire night
Around 35,000 people attend the bonfire celebrations in Carlisle every year and the preparations are well underway for this years spectacular.
To assist with the building of the bonfire this year a new access slope has been constructed. This hopefully will stop some of the damage done to the field as contractors vehicles slip and slide in the mud.
According to the local council, the Fireshow will bring the city’s history to life with a sparkling tale that will include a replica of Carlisle Castle’s fortress walls as the centrepiece of the bonfire and more than 2,000 spectacular fireworks.
Autumn leaves
Whilst out on my walk this morning through Bitts Park and into nearby streets, I noticed that many of the trees have started to shed their leaves very quickly now.
I was quite surprised with the wide range of colours and textures as they tickled my tummy and clung to my ears.
Large drifts of leaves make ideal areas to play in and snuffle through. They are full of new smells and sniffs.
Just a word of caution, leaves can be quite slippery to our humans as they don’t have four paw traction like us. So take care and don’t pull too hard on your leads.
