Daffodils waiting to herald spring

Daffodils, snowdrops and a misty walk

With mist blanketing the City of Carlisle all weekend, I ventured out to get some exercise and some boys time with my human dad.

Rufus has totally altered my peace and quiet so it was great when on Saturday dad picked up my collar and lead and we went exploring the western side of the City.

Daffodils and snowdrops

Heading towards the new bypass we could not fail to notice the number of daffodils and snowdrops lining the hedgerows and in peoples’ gardens.

The recent weather has been quite cold which appears to have encouraged many snowdrops to flower this year.

With their short stems and bright white bells,  spring can not be far away.

Waiting in the wings are the daffodils. Bright yellow trumpets captive in protective sleeves long for the temperatures to increase before heralding a new season.

Don’t get me wrong, it has been great to have another dog in the house but it is taking time to adapt my routines.

Rufus is constantly under my paws, hanging onto my ears and chasing me. My only escape is up the stairs away from his attentions. But we all know in a few weeks even this peace will be shattered as he learns how to climb.

Mum and dad are also under pressure with a youngster in the house.  I have never seen as much cleaning and tidying as they move stuff away from the little nippers sniffer.

One good thing is that he is currently grounded due to his vaccinations.  This means for a few weeks more dad and I can spend some quality time together.

Heading under the crackling electricity pylons at line the paths on this side of Carlisle we came across an unusual addition to a hedgerow.

It would appear that the hedge had become a nesting site for assorted bottles and cans.  Positioned by the roadside a number of bottles and cans had been hooked onto twigs rather than being placed in a rubbish bin.

I do not understand why humans feel the need to adorn shrubs with waste rather than take it home or to a dustbin.

As we finished our walk we spotted this van parked in a pub car park.

At first we thought the BBC TV motoring programme TopGear were in the area as it featured what appeared to be a big image of The Stig. However, as we came closer it appears that a mobile hairdresser has set up in the City with an interesting name and branding.

Called TopShear mobile barbers the big van is a salon on wheels.

Further research on the web finds an article published in the local newspaper, The Cumberland News, back in December 2014. The owners it turns out, are fans of the TV series and have a military background.

Until next time, and don’t forget to Like me on Facebook using the button to the right.
