First daffodil flowers of 2015

Daffodils in Carlisle on St David’s Day

First daffodil flowers of 2015

Out and about in recent days, I have spotted my first daffodil flowers of 2015.

Today is the perfect day, it being St David’s day, March 1st to share it on my blog.

St David is the patron saint of Wales.

Many humans mark the day by wearing one of the two national emblems of Wales, either a daffodil or a leek.  They often display the flag of St David, which is a yellow cross on a black background.

The Baner Cymru is the striking flag of Wales, and features a red dragon. According to Wikipedia the flag was granted official status in 1959.

In Welsh, the daffodil is known as “Peter’s leek,” Cenhinen Bedr.

Wales also boasts more castles per square mile than any other country in Europe.

Until next time
