Black squares on a white background don’t often get my attention but a number of A4 sheets of paper have appeared all over Carlisle Railway station and I am curious as to why?
My first thoughts, during my recent visit, was that the numbered boards were part of a public artwork. However, this somehow this doesn’t feel correct and I have not heard mum or dad talking about it.
Maybe it is a bit of fun by the humans to confuse visitors or amuse them while they wait for a train. A sort of ‘I-spy’ game for children to search out the full collection of notices.
Could it be some sort of archelological marker or tool used in a measurement project as the station gets digitally mapped?
Honestly, I do not know what they are for, hence me writing this post to ask for your help in solving the puzzle.
