Many birds are busy nest building in our garden and we are doing our bit to help with ample supply of soft warm fluff from our coats.
Collected after daily brushing, clipping and general tidying sessions, it is amazing how soon mum managed to gather a big carrier bag of fur from us in the last few months.
To help the new feathered mums to be, we recently filled a peanut type bird feeder with our clean fluff and hung it in the garden. High up in a cherry tree away from predatory cats, the free nest lining was eagerly gathered.
Great tits, Blue tits and other birds have been stuffing their beaks to make cosy nurseries to rear their impending broods.
When reading the RSPB forums, mum discovered that other people are also putting out pet fur, human hair from hair brushes and even fluff from the clothes dryer.
We are not so sure about the last two because just like us, birds are very sensitive to chemicals that humans use.
There are even people commenting that birds have been bold enough to pluck the fluff directly from pooches and other animals taking a nap in the garden…..just let them try!
