{"id":1584,"date":"2009-12-05T15:05:37","date_gmt":"2009-12-05T14:05:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/?p=1584"},"modified":"2009-12-13T15:06:39","modified_gmt":"2009-12-13T14:06:39","slug":"mucky-paws-in-bitts-park-carlisle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/2009\/12\/mucky-paws-in-bitts-park-carlisle\/","title":{"rendered":"Mucky paws in Bitts Park, Carlisle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>How many times can we start a blog entry by saying it is raining again? \u00a0We make a quick dash today, between the showers, \u00a0to Bitts Park so that we can get out and stretch our paws.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1585\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1585\" style=\"width: 203px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2009\/12\/bitts_park_1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1585\" title=\"Bitts Park, Carlisle\" src=\"https:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2009\/12\/bitts_park_1-203x152.jpg\" alt=\"Bitts Park, Carlisle\" width=\"203\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1585\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bitts Park, Carlisle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Finding a car parking space was difficult for dad as something must be going on at the nearby <a title=\"Sheepmount Sports Cnetre\" href=\"http:\/\/www.carlisleleisure.co.uk\/outdoorrecreation\/sheepmount.php\" target=\"_blank\">Sheepmount sports complex<\/a>. Interesting and just an aside, the Sheepmount description from the link above says that the site has two cricket pitches and a cycle track, where?<\/p>\n<p>The number of times we have visited the area and we have never seen anyone playing cricket or getting on their bikes except on the public paths through the park.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our walk<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Back to our walk and after parking the car and avoiding slipping in the muddy grass we finally got onto long leads and a scamper about.<\/p>\n<p>In a previous update we mentioned that areas of <a title=\"Flooding in Carlisle\" href=\"http:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/2009\/11\/calm-sea-at-silloth-after-cumbrian-storms\/\" target=\"_blank\">Carlisle <\/a>had been flooded in the recent storms well it looks like the new moat by the side of <a title=\"Carlisle Castle\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ukheritage.net\/castles\/carlisle.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Carlisle Castle<\/a> has now vanished.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1588\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1588\" style=\"width: 203px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2009\/12\/bitts_park_4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1588\" title=\"Victoria Park, Carlisle\" src=\"https:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2009\/12\/bitts_park_4-203x152.jpg\" alt=\"Victoria Park, Carlisle\" width=\"203\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1588\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Victoria Park, Carlisle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Silt and mucky puddles line the path and it wasn&#8217;t long before the tidemark around our legs became visible.<\/p>\n<p>Mum suggested that we should get some wellington boots.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We meet biscuit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Victoria Park, next door and along the same path, had not dried out and the calm duckpond reflected the sky like a mirror.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1589\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1589\" style=\"width: 203px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2009\/12\/bitts_park_4a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1589\" title=\"Biscuit goes for a swim\" src=\"https:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2009\/12\/bitts_park_4a-203x152.jpg\" alt=\"Biscuit goes for a swim\" width=\"203\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1589\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Biscuit goes for a swim<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Previous visits to this park had revealed a number of burrows in the plant borders possibly made by rabbits or maybe a badger or two.<\/p>\n<p>Mum and dad wondered if they had found new homes or had possibly drowned as the waters rose.<\/p>\n<p>Bounding along, stick in mouth, came biscuit. Charlie gets fussed over as a fellow nutter and did make a bit of a collection of paw prints on his trousers, for which he can only say sorry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blossom<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many of the plants in the park have now hunkered down for the winter after loosing leaves and shedding flowers. However, some love this time of year including a winter flowering cherry.<\/p>\n<p>Bright white flowers with pinkish centres contrast brilliantly against the dark grey sky and brown tree trunks.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1586\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1586\" style=\"width: 203px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2009\/12\/bitts_park_2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1586\" title=\"Fallen Willow tree, Victoria Park, Carlisle\" src=\"https:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2009\/12\/bitts_park_2-203x152.jpg\" alt=\"Fallen Willow tree, Victoria Park, Carlisle\" width=\"203\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1586\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fallen Willow tree, Victoria Park, Carlisle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nearby, spreading scent across a wide area is a viburnum. Small white flowers dispense a perfume in to the cool breeze similar to jasmine.<\/p>\n<p>One of the casualties of the flooding is a very tall willow tree which now has its roots above ground.<\/p>\n<p>Willlow usually enjoy their feet in damp soil but the soft ground has given way allowing this tree to fallover.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1591\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1591\" style=\"width: 203px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2009\/12\/bitts_park_6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1591\" title=\"Paw prints\" src=\"https:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2009\/12\/bitts_park_6-203x152.jpg\" alt=\"Paw prints\" width=\"203\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1591\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Paw prints<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Maybe the grounds staff will be able to replant it once the waters go away but more than likely it will be turned into chippings.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s hope a new tree is planted in it&#8217;s place.<\/p>\n<p>We return home and entering the house it becomes apparent that we may have picked up quite a bit of mud and debris from our walk.<\/p>\n<p>The entrance hall floor quickly becomes covered with small mucky paw prints and as is so much the procedure these days, we go straight to the bathroom.<\/p>\n<p>Yipee not a full bath, but a washing of our legs and tummies to remove the grit and dirt. \u00a0I think a few hours infront of the warm fire is needed now to dry off and chill.
