After what seems like weeks of wet weather, we finally have a dry day and head off to the park to stretch our legs.<\/p>\n

Following a brisk walk around the fields near to the Sheepmount Stadium, we return into Bitts and Victoria Parks and a walk on the hard paths to wear down our nails.<\/p>\n

Many of the flower beds in Victoria Park are getting their summer make-over as new bedding plants are planted.<\/p>\n

Large black plastic trays of plants have been distributed around the park waiting for the local council staff to empty.<\/p>\n

We continue along the path and through the tunnel that leads to the back of The Sands Centre.<\/p>\n

Since our last visit to this area it looks like a lot of building work has taken place.<\/p>\n

A series of square bollards, or are they seats, have been installed all with Roman place names on them.<\/p>\n

This installation, along with yet another carved wooden column nearby, must be part of the same Roman scheme <\/a>we mentioned a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n

Sadly many visitors to Carlisle will be unaware of the carved stone plinths, as they are hiding on the River Eden side of The Sands Centre flood defences.<\/p>\n

Charlie gave each and every one of the blocks a good check over to ensure all was ok.<\/p>\n

He did notice that, as they have a top surface that is reasonably flat, dirt and bird dropping had started to collect making them look a little grotty.<\/p>\n

Looking back down the row of plinths we did have a bit of luck when we spotted yet another flood tile.<\/p>\n

You can just see it in the wide view picture above, \u00a0the white square in front of the person sat down.<\/p>\n

Positioned just above our sniffer height, the tile also has a companion map.<\/p>\n

At long last visitors to the area, who spot the tiles, have an explanation as to what they are for.<\/p>\n

Being so low down however results in the two leggers needing to kneel to read it. \u00a0Not easy if you have a heavy rucksack on and carrying loads of kit due to doing one of the big walks that pass through the area.<\/p>\n

We will add an image of this tile and the other two we spotted nearby to our gallery in the next few days.<\/p>\n
