A changeable pattern of weather over the last few days led to quite a bit of localised flooding in north Cumbria on Saturday and disruption to our expedition schedule.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, as it had rained heavily overnight and continued to do so early in the morning, mum and dad decided they would leave us behind and head off to an event Called Woolfest<\/a> in Cockermouth.<\/p>\n

The event takes place on the outskirts of the town in north Cumbria at the auction mart and, as the name suggests is a festival of all things woolly.<\/p>\n

On the way there they took a few detours to see for themselves some of the areas that had been flooded.<\/p>\n

A field, to the side of the A595 just outside of Carlisle, had been turned into a reservoir due to the amout of water that now flooded it.<\/p>\n

The farmer was busy trying to rescue the cattle that had become marooned just a few moments before this picture was taken. It appears that they were all ok, apart from being very soggy.<\/p>\n

Baldwinholme flooding<\/h3>\n

Nearby in a small village called Baldwinholme, flooding had affected the road.<\/p>\n

Water was gushing out of nearby fields and pooling on the \u00a0road, causing drivers to stop and assess the depth before proceeding.<\/p>\n

According the the Environment Agency (EA), the boffins that monitor rivers for floods, the River Eden in Carlisle peaked<\/a> at over 3.47m in Carlisle on Saturday.<\/p>\n

This is a long way short of the peak of\u00a07.23 metres on 08 January 2005 when Carlisle flooded.<\/p>\n

High water in Cockermouth<\/h2>\n

Taking a slight detour dad stopped off in Cockermouth to take a look at the river levels.<\/p>\n

You may remember that this town was the scene of devastating floods in 2009 where flood waters rushed down the main street clearing away anything in its path.<\/p>\n

Thankfully on Saturday these scenes were not being replayed but the two leggers saw some very worried visitors keeping a close eye on the river.<\/p>\n

According to the EA<\/a> river levels peaked on Saturday just below 2.7m \u00a0– only 1m below the flood levels of 2009.<\/p>\n

Flood defence works are being constructed in Cockermouth, so these should help reassure and protect residents and shop owners in the town once finished.<\/p>\n

Heading up the hill and away from the river the arrival of a bit of sunshine helped improve spirits as the humans arrived at their destination of Woolfest.<\/p>\n

Listening to them recount their day, and investigating the sniffs they brought back, it appears as if we missed out on quite an event.<\/p>\n

Charlie was all over mum when she returned and soon worked out the smell of sheep and wool.<\/p>\n

He was into everything as he worked out where they had been, no bag was left unsearched.<\/p>\n

Cows, other dogs, sawdust and of course sheep were all found in the mix.Which is no surprise given the event was held in a cattle market where some owners had brought along their pets.<\/p>\n

Maybe we will get out to play on soon?<\/p>\n
