Carlisle Castle looks set to play its part in some large event over the next few days as it closes to the general public for three days.<\/p>\n

A temporary road surface on the Castle lawns<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

During my walk this morning I noticed that bright yellow signs placed at the entrance to the large red sandstone complex \u00a0indicate\u00a0all access is prohibited between Monday 15 September and Wednesday 17th.<\/p>\n

Just visible through the arch is a large tent and publicity arch<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Further adding to the puzzle is the placing of a temporary road surface\u00a0onto the Castle lawn in front of the main gate.<\/p>\n

Temporary structures also look as if they have been erected inside the fortified walls.<\/p>\n

A quick glimpse into the courtyard shows a\u00a0large white marquee and what looks like an inflatable promotional awning. Just \u00a0like you would see above a finishing line of a road race.<\/p>\n

Searching around the web for answers upon my return home and\u00a0possibly two coinciding events\u00a0maybe going on here.<\/p>\n

The Cumbria Way Ultra<\/h4>\n

The first is possibly a race finish line. However, the second use is mysterious and \u00a0as yet unknown.<\/p>\n

According to the website\u00a0http:\/\/www.pureoutdoorsevents.co.uk<\/a>\u00a0Carlisle Castle is to play host to\u00a0the finishing line for the Cumbria Way Ultra Challenge race between Ulverston, in South Cumbria, and Carlisle.<\/p>\n

The race started at 6am on\u00a0Saturday\u00a0with the prize presentation in the Castle at noon today,\u00a0Sunday.<\/p>\n

Given one of the sponsors for this event is\u00a0headware retailer Buff<\/a>, and it appears to be\u00a0their inflatable arch inside the castle, then possibly this solves the first\u00a0mystery.<\/p>\n

Nearby a fleet of caravans, generators and welfare vans await occupancy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Carlisle Castle – filmset?<\/h2>\n

The second mystery is not so easily solved and is a bit of a patchwork of evidence at this time.<\/p>\n

Firstly it is well known that many stately homes and historic venues offer their services as filming locations.<\/p>\n

A quick look on the English Heritage website<\/a>, who maintain Carlisle Castle,\u00a0\u00a0shows some of their\u00a0recent projects:<\/p>\n
