Expand Heathrow advert on Carlisle street<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Whilst walking through town the other day my human dad and I spotted this large poster for Heathrow Airport <\/a>at a bus stop in Carlisle and it stopped us in our tracks.<\/p>\n

The advert claims<\/a> that if a new runway is built in London the UK economy is given a \u00a3100 Billion boost and 120,000 jobs created.<\/p>\n

Now politics aside I am really curious who thought putting such a poster up in Carlisle was a good idea. \u00a0I would imagine that many humans in the north of England don’t really care about what goes on in London and would take a dim view of yet another multi-million pound honeypot project\u00a0for the south.<\/p>\n

Not a day goes by without the newspapers featuring a story about\u00a0transport projects in the south being of benefit to the northern populous. \u00a0However, we have heard it all before.<\/p>\n

Great for the north ?<\/h4>\n

Many humans as old as my mum and dad remember the claims made for a tunnel under the channel. \u00a0You can “get to Europe\u00a0from Carlisle in a few hours ,” I think was one of them.<\/p>\n

Well the reality is neither of them have been through the Tunnel since it officially opened in May 1994. \u00a0That is over 20 years ago. \u00a0They also know very few people who have.<\/p>\n

It is also worth noting that it can take at best nearly six hours to get to the Folkestone Eurotunnel Terminal<\/a> at a cost of at least \u00a3100 per person, if you go by train booked in advance.<\/p>\n

Getting to Heathrow is equally as bad and not for the faint\u00a0hearted. It often involves cars, non-direct trains, flights and long waits for connections making the whole exercise expensive, time-consuming and frustrating. \u00a0Not the ideal start to a holiday or adventure.<\/p>\n

It is this fact that the advertising guru’s and politicians, fail to understand. \u00a0One good thing worth noting however, is if a new runway is built in London and the\u00a0new high speed train line (HS2) is installed,\u00a0more people will be living in the\u00a0south leaving the green countryside up’t north wide open for us dogs to enjoy.<\/p>\n

And to think some\u00a0humans\u00a0pay a premium to live in blocks of flats and get stuck in traffic….. \u00a0They just have not evolved.<\/p>\n
