I was not even a twinkle last year so everything is new.<\/p>\n<p>Jumping into piles of leaves and scuffling through the debris makes for some great new sensations. Some leaves cling to my coat whilst others provide shelter for small animals such as mice\u00a0and\u00a0hedgehogs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hedgerow food<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Blackbirds and robins can frequently be seen turning over leaves in their quest for bugs and beetles to eat.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5887\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5887\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2015\/10\/p602017_l-e1444298565435.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5887\" src=\"https:\/\/ablogfrommydog.com\/contents1a\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2015\/10\/p602017_l-e1444298565435-300x160.jpg\" alt=\"The smell of spices fills the house \" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5887\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The smell of spices fills the house<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Scampering high in the trees the occasional squirrel can be seen as he tries to gather the last of the nuts and wild foods for his larder.<\/p>\n<p>Mum is also very busy stocking up our\u00a0freezer and cupboards. Trays of glass jars and assorted glass bottles brim full of concoctions made from brambles, apples and elderberries litter the worktops and shelves.<\/p>\n<p>At times the kitchen resembles the scene from a horror movie as\u00a0deep red juice drips like blood from pipes, spoons and funnels.<\/p>\n<p>Around\u00a0the house the air is filled with\u00a0the smell of cloves, warmed fruit, nutmeg and syrup. \u00a0Charlie and I watch from our vantage point, snuggled on our kitchen rug away from mums feet, longing for our next foraging adventure.<\/p>\n<p>Until next time.
